How to use the number.

Time yourself on your next few cleans, start to finish. Use that number, not the time you hope it takes.

Treat the suggested price as the floor for a standard clean. Suede, deep stains and sole work take longer, so run them through again as their own service.

If the price feels high for your area, change the inputs, not the math. Work faster, buy supplies in bulk, or settle on the hourly pay you can live with.

Check it again when your costs change. New rent, pricier supplies or a raise for yourself all move the number.

Common questions.

How much should I charge to clean shoes?

Add up what one clean costs you. That is your time at the hourly pay you want, the supplies you use and a share of your shop costs. Then add a markup for profit. This calculator adds 70% to your cost and rounds up to the next $5. What your area will pay decides how far above that you can go.

How do I work out my cost per clean?

Multiply the hours a clean takes by the pay you want per hour. A 45 minute clean at $20 an hour is $15 of your time. Add the supplies for that clean. The calculator also adds $1.50 for shop costs. If your monthly bills divided by your monthly cleans comes to more, add the difference to supplies.

What is the difference between markup and margin?

Markup is what you add on top of your cost. Margin is the share of the price you keep. Adding 70% to a $20 cost gives a $34 price. You keep $14, which is about a 41% margin.

Should I charge less than other shops to get started?

A lower price is fine as long as it stays above your cost per clean. Below that, every clean loses money, and more customers only makes it worse.
